VOLVO GROUP Construction of new heavy-duty truck manufacturing plant in Mexico announced – Companies

The Volvo Group announced today that it will build a new heavy truck manufacturing plant in Mexico to complement the Group’s production in the United States.

The plant will provide additional capacity to support Volvo Trucks and Mack Trucks’ growth plans in the U.S. and Canadian markets and to support Mack truck sales in Mexico and Latin America. The plant is expected to be operational in 2026.

The Mack LVO plant in Pennsylvania and the Volvo NRV plant in Virginia will continue to be the company’s primary heavy-duty truck manufacturing sites in North America. The Group has invested more than $73 million over the past five years in expansion and upgrades of the LVO plant and is currently investing a further $80 million to prepare for future production. The NRV plant is completing a six-year, $400 million expansion/modernization to prepare for production of the new Volvo VNL model.

The new plant will have a surface area of approximately 1.7 million square meters and will focus on the production of heavy-duty conventional vehicles for the Volvo and Mack brands. This will be a complete conventional vehicle assembly plant, including body manufacturing and painting.

The addition of manufacturing in Mexico will provide logistical efficiencies to support sales in the Southwest/Western regions of the United States, Mexico and Latin America. Furthermore, it provides a mature supply and manufacturing ecosystem that will complement the US system and increase the resilience and flexibility of the Group’s North American industrial foothold.
