Qualifications for the European Water Polo Championship for players under 19 began tonight in Trebinje, and in the first game of the tournament, the water polo players of Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated Finland with a score of 20:10.

In addition to BiH and Finland, the national teams of France, the Czech Republic and Great Britain are also participating in this qualifying tournament.
On Thursday, the Czech Republic won as well, beating Great Britain 9:6.
This is the first appearance of the junior water polo team of BiH, for which the player Leotar from Trebinje Gojko Janković is also performing, who said that he is proud to be part of the team and that it is a special feeling to score a goal in front of the home crowd.
BiH youth water polo player coach Stevan Nonković told journalists that today’s victory is the beginning of a beautiful story and that the children have shown that they can overcome all obstacles with their work and commitment.
“I hope this is just the beginning, we’ll see where our ultimate limits are,” pointed out Nonković and added that local young water polo players have great potential.
He said that he was very satisfied with the conditions and thanked Trebinje for the hospitality.
The assistant coach of the BiH selection, Nikola Lješković, who is also the coach of the Trebinje water polo club, said that he is proud of Janković and the whole team, and that the invitation to the national team is the crown of his work, as well as an excellent opportunity to promote water polo sports, swimming pools and Trebinje.
“We hope to surprise the other teams and go on and show what we can do at the European Championship in Bulgaria.” stated Lješković.
The first two teams from this qualification group will play in the European Championship, which will be played from September 1 to 9 in Bulgaria.
