TOKYO (Reuters) – Welcia Holdings (3141.T), the largest drugstore company, announced on the 17th that its president, Tadahisa Matsumoto, has resigned on the same day. Regarding the reason, he stated that he had “determined that there had been inappropriate conduct in his personal life that would damage the credibility of the company,” and on the 16th, he recommended that he resign as president and director.

The company takes this issue seriously and explains, “Going forward, we will further strengthen our compliance system and work to prevent recurrence.” Chairman Takamitsu Ikeno will be the only representative director.

President Matsumoto has been president of Welcia HD since March 2019. Since March 2023, he has also served as executive officer (in charge of health and wellness) of parent company Aeon (8267.T) New Tab, opens new tab. On the same day, Aeon announced that its board of directors had resolved to dismiss Mr. Matsumoto as executive officer.
