Internet-free navigation systems have long been a thing of history when driving. The main reason for this is the smartphone map app Google Maps with its many useful functions. In order to make operation as easy as possible for users, the Google development team is constantly working on updates for the app. However, a recent change is causing a lack of understanding.

These are adjustments to the driving mode. The menu for apps has no longer been available since the beginning of the year. Users should now use voice control. Instead of calling up the menu with the touchpad while driving, apps and music should be opened using a voice command. One reason for the innovation could be increased traffic safety.
Android users have to connect to the car
Instead of a larger bar for the app, a reduced version is available with the update: a black bar with access to voice control. The media player that was normally visible when listening to music or podcasts is missing. There is also only one button for settings instead of the detailed app menu.

However, this change only applies to Android smartphones. Users who want to access additional Google Maps functions now have to connect their smartphone to the car.
