The World Health Organization (WHO) is warning that the new coronavirus variant known as JN.1 is accelerating its spread around the world, leading to a surge in infections and deaths. The WHO reported that the number of deaths from COVID-19 in December was close to 10,000, an “unacceptable” level. One resident of Shanghai, Ms. Ming, revealed to The Epoch Times that her cousin-in-law died inexplicably at home after being infected with the virus and discharged from the hospital. Hospitals in China have allegedly been reluctant to confirm COVID-19 as the cause of death, and have discouraged recording it to avoid cremation delays.
The JN.1 variant was listed as a new coronavirus variant requiring attention by the WHO in December 2023 due to its increased contagiousness. Chinese health officials have downplayed the COVID-19 epidemic, labeling it a “flu” pandemic, despite reports of severe illness and deaths.
On social media, many netizens in mainland China have raised suspicions about the government’s handling of the situation, suggesting that the CCP is covering up the true nature of the epidemic.
