WHO Warns of Accelerated Spread of New Coronavirus Variant JN.1 Worldwide

The World Health Organization (WHO) is warning that the new coronavirus variant known as JN.1 is accelerating its spread around the world, leading to a surge in infections and deaths. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the spread of the new variant, combined with holiday crowd gatherings, has led to a 42% increase in hospitalizations and a 62% rise in intensive care patients.

The WHO reported that the number of deaths from COVID-19 in December was close to 10,000, an ā€œunacceptableā€ level. However, concerns have been raised about the transparency of the data, as the Chinese government has been accused of covering up the true scale of the epidemic within the country. Reports of overcrowded hospitals and high-frequency operation of crematoriums in China suggest a serious situation.

One resident of Shanghai, Ms. Ming, revealed to The Epoch Times that her cousin-in-law died inexplicably at home after being infected with the virus and discharged from the hospital. Hospitals in China have allegedly been reluctant to confirm COVID-19 as the cause of death, and have discouraged recording it to avoid cremation delays.

The JN.1 variant was listed as a new coronavirus variant requiring attention by the WHO in December 2023 due to its increased contagiousness. Chinese health officials have downplayed the COVID-19 epidemic, labeling it a ā€œfluā€ pandemic, despite reports of severe illness and deaths.

On social media, many netizens in mainland China have raised suspicions about the governmentā€™s handling of the situation, suggesting that the CCP is covering up the true nature of the epidemic.
