Manchester City advanced to the semifinals Cup FOUR this season after beating Newcastle United 2-0 in the last eight. The Citizens’ hopes of defending the title are still maintained.

Playing at the Etihad Stadium, Sunday (17/3/2024) early morning WIB, City was ahead in the 13th minute. Bernardo Silva dribbled the ball into the penalty box after receiving Rodri’s pass then fired a shot which hit Dan Burn before going into the goal.

City increased their lead in the 31st minute. Silva’s shot hit Sven Botman’s head, causing the ball to turn and eventually glide smoothly into the goal after outwitting Martin Dubravka. The score was 2-0.

Newcastle tried to close the distance. A golden opportunity came through Alexander Isak in the 36th minute, but his shot from close range was blocked by goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

City also did not stop attacking to score goals. Jeremy Doku had a chance in the 45th minute, but his left footed shot was blocked by Dubravka. The 35-year-old goalkeeper also blocked Ruben Dias’ header a minute later, so the score remained 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, City did not relax their attacks. Doku almost scored the third goal in the 48th minute, but his shot was saved by Dubravka. Four minutes later, Erling Haaland’s long-range shot failed to meet the target.

Newcastle also continued to try to attack, but they created minimal opportunities. Botman had a chance via a corner kick in the 66th minute, but the Dutch defender’s header went over the goal.

After that, both teams had minimal attacks. City brought on Julian Alvarez towards the end of the match, but still didn’t change the position. A score of 2-0 was enough to take Pep Guardiola’s team to Wembley.
