Xabi Alonso will be without midfielder Florian Wirtz in the game at Eintracht Frankfurt. This will be spared for the second leg of the Europa League semi-final against AS Roma (Thursday, 9 p.m.).
Left-back Alejandro Grimaldo is also missing from the squad. In an interview with DAZN, Alonso explained his decision: “Normally they are fit for Thursday. They’ve had a bit of trouble in the last two weeks, so we didn’t want to take any chances today.”
So nothing should stand in the way of an operation on Thursday. The game in Frankfurt is meaningless for the outcome of the season anyway. However, Leverkusen would like to remain undefeated there too in order to become the first team to survive a Bundesliga season without defeat.
