The flightthe group formed by Gianluca Ginoble, Piero Barone and Ignazio Boschetto, arrives at the Sanremo Festival 2024 with the song Masterpiece. This is the group’s third participation, after having made their debut with a victory at the 2015 Sanremo Festival with Great lovewhich will also be the prelude to the release of the third Sanremo EP Great love. In 2019 they will return with Music that remainswhich will not have the same success, finishing only in third place. Here is the interview with Il Volo.

How was Capolavoro born?

Gianluca Ginoble: Capolavoro is a song that tells a bit about our personal and artistic growth. Also because returning with the same things would represent always being the same and never changing.

Loredana Bertè: “I aim to win Sanremo to dedicate it to Mimì, I would like to go to Eurovision”

Piero Barone: After 15 years we realized that we had never recorded an album of unreleased songs. We have put together a team of authors who have tailor-made the songs musically: the lyrics also arise from our comparisons, dialogues and discussions. The authors lived with us for a year, a year and a half, and these were the results.

What does a new participation in the Festival mean for Il Volo?

Ignazio Boschetto: Sanremo has a different importance for us, because this year we will celebrate 15 years together: 15 years of career, 15 years that started from that stage. And it is the perfect stage because Sanremo has changed in recent years, it has become an incredible media showcase. For us there was no better place to try to present this new project, from Capolavoro to what will then be the album that will be released soon.

And what about America?

Gianluca Ginoble: America is the metaphor of the boy who dreams of going out of his comfort zone. In reality it tells our story, our dream of living off music. There is this contrast between feeling and work as a personal ambition.

What opportunities has the possibility of traveling so much with music given you?

Piero Barone: We consider ourselves three privileged kids who suddenly had the opportunity to discover the world, discover new cultures, learn new languages. Maybe over time you recognize that you sacrificed your adolescence, the time not spent with your friends, but then there is always time in life to make up for some things.

What relationship do you have with criticism, which has also affected you in recent years?

Ignazio Boschetto: We have always been used to seeing criticism in a constructive way. It is clear that everyone has their own tastes, their own opinion. In the end what matters is making music, having fun first and foremost and always questioning ourselves. Also because he thinks it’s boring to always be in the comfort zone. That’s a bit of what we’re doing this year with this new project.

What is the true strength of Il Volo?
Gianluca Ginoble: In my opinion the great diversity. We are so different that original ideas always arise. If we were the same with the same characters, with the same voices, with the same tastes, in my opinion it would be the greatest damage. It is from contrast that the spark is born and this is our great strength. And thank goodness.

Objective for the Sanremo Festival?
