Some countries are being hit by fires, and the World Christian Association expresses its care.

(Vatican News Network)Greece, Turkey, Albania and other countries are currently experiencing unprecedented fires. Entire tracts of land have been destroyed, causing casualties. Pastor Ioan Sauca, interim secretary general of the World Christian Association, sent a message of care. The recipients are Bartholomew, Patriarch of Constantinople, Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and the All-Russian Orthodox Church, Heronimus II, Archbishop of Athens and the All-Hellenic Orthodox Church, the Evangelical Church of Greece, and Anastasios, the archbishop of the Orthodox Church of Lana, Durres and All Albania, and a member of the World Council of Christianity in the United States.

Pastor Soka wrote in the message that as many people are fighting the fire, “I express our care to all those who have lost their relatives and livelihoods” and promised to pray for them.

Then, Pastor Soka said, “It is becoming increasingly obvious that the scale of the fires that occurred in the world this year is different from that of previous years.” They are increasingly obvious extreme phenomena and are the consequences of climate change. In fact, “climate changes caused by human beings are accelerating, fundamentally changing our common homeland”. Pastor Soka expressed his appreciation to many countries, who are “acting and working together to rescue those suffering from this natural disaster”. He also expressed his gratitude to “the professionals and volunteers who risked their lives to participate in the rescue work.”

Pastor Soka, the interim secretary of the World Christian Association, pointed out that “in this crisis and painful period, shelter, food and nutrition are more needed. The Christian Church provides comfort and advice, hospitality and hope, strength and care in these places.” Finally, Pastor Soka prayed for “all the groups that have been hit by the fire, and for those who are uncertain about their future and do not know whether they have lost everything.” Pastor Soka said at the end of the message, “Even in the greatest disaster, the Lord is always with us, and we can be sure that we can always turn to Him.”
