Montblanc celebrates the pen’s 100th anniversary masterpiece. Launched in 1924, when the Maison still used its first name – Simplo, the piece was born from the hands of European artisans, who were already developing their personal projects and creating unique writing instruments for their own use.

Because they displayed highly advanced craftsmanship, these creations were known as Meisterstück, which means “masterpiece” in German. This coincidence gave rise to the first Meisterstück collection, which quickly rose to the status of a cultural icon and is, to this day, synonymous with Montblanc.

Meisterstück became so iconic that although their name was initially translated in several countries, they were quickly abandoned and the German word Meisterstück became their name in every market in which they appeared.
From the beginning, the number “4810” – referring to the height of the Mont Blanc mountain in meters – was intrinsically linked to Meisterstück. The four digits were prominently displayed on the packaging, engraved on the cap and – since 1930 – on the nib.

In 1928, another attribute considered today characteristic of Montblanc was introduced with the Meisterstück: the two gold rings were added to the cap, not just as a decorative element, but to strengthen the cap and reduce the risk of cracking.
The introduction of the first Meisterstück with three golden rings on the lid took place in 1937. This recognizable detail is said to represent the three individuals who had the greatest influence on the formation of the company in its founding years: Wilhelm Dziambor, Christian Lausen and Claus Johannes Voss .
