There are four blood types: A, B, AB and zero blood type. Each of them is different, has its own characteristics and weaknesses, but one is by far the most resistant to diseases. This is precisely why the “zero” blood group is considered the longest-lived.

It has been proven that in people with zero blood group there is a lower risk of getting cardiovascular diseases such as, as well as less often getting sick from certain types of cancer, such as pancreatic cancer and stomach cancer. One of the reasons discovered so far why blood group 0 is the healthiest is that the blood of this group contains fewer molecules that can cause blood clotting and heart attacks and strokes caused by blood clots.

“It seems intuitively obvious that avoiding disease is part of a long-life strategy. But there is a strong belief that in centenarians all the benefit comes from anti-aging genes,” Stewart Kim, a professor at Stanford University, told The Time magazine.

In order to discover the secret of longevity, scientists examined the genes of 800 centenarians and 5,400 ninety-year-olds and found that variations in four genes are very important for the speed of aging:

  • CDKN2B which has an important role in cell division
  • ABO which refers to the type of blood type
  • APOE, which affects the body’s tendency to develop Alzheimer’s disease
  • SH2B3 that extends the life of humans and fruit flies

As they explained, they determined that certain gene variations occur more often in people who live to be a hundred, and when it comes to blood type, it was zero.
