Russian Central Election Commission (Central Election Committee) Chairman Pamfilova announced the results of the eighth State Duma (lower house of parliament) elections on the 24th. The ruling party, the United Russia Party (Russian Unity Party), won. 324 seats, maintaining the “constitutional majority” status.
Russian media quoted Pamfilova on the 24th and reported that a total of 8 political parties and 5 self-recommended candidates entered the new State Duma.
Statistics from the Central Election Committee show that in addition to the 324 seats of the State Duma, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (Russian Communist Party) won 57 seats, ranking second; Just Russia-Patriots-for the Truth Party won 27 seats, ranking second. Third; Russia’s Liberal Democratic Party (Liberal Democratic Party) followed closely with 21 seats; the Newcomers Party successfully entered the Duma for the first time with 13 seats.
The Russian State Duma elections lasted from September 17 to 19. The State Duma is a permanent legislative body of Russia, composed of 450 representatives. The election is a mixed election system, half of the seats are elected according to the proportional representation system of the parties, and the other half of the seats are elected in single-seat constituencies, that is, there are 225 constituencies in the country, and each constituency elects one member. The voting threshold for political parties to enter the State Duma is 5%.
