De Pasquale dies at 65 A life spent for the weakest

Alice Superiore mourns the death of the president of the yellow-blue Cross Active already when he was 14, he was engaged in welcoming immigrants

ALICE SUPERIORE. The world of Valchiusello volunteering is in mourning for the death of Dino De Pasquale, president of the yellow-blue Cross of Turin, which he himself founded in 1992. De Pasquale passed away at the age of 65 on Tuesday morning in his house in Alice Superiore, a hamlet of Val di Chy, after a long illness with which he had been able to live with great dignity and courage, assisted by his wife Nadia.

De Pasquale had been retired for two years after a career as a laboratory technician at the Polytechnic of Turin. And in Alice Superiore, together with other volunteers of the non-profit organization, she managed the Casa della solidarity, a property located in the heart of the town and purchased precisely by the yellow-blue cross of Turin. For Dino De Pasquale, volunteering was a mission, so much so that when he was just 14 he joined the Italian Red Cross. Fifty years, therefore, spent in the service of others.

And just a few days before his death he had made contact with organizations in the world of hospitality, to try to start a hospitality project in favor of Ukrainian refugees, at whose disposal he was thinking of putting the Casa in Alicante. Therefore, Dino De Pasquale was unselfish to the last. Initially, as part of the international “Chernobyl” project, the House of Solidarity hosted a group of Belarusian children. Subsequently, on several occasions, the Alice Superiore facility had welcomed refugees from North Africa who had landed in Lampedusa on board the sea carts.

And it was Dino De Pasquale, together with his collaborators, who organized Italian language learning courses and a series of workshops, to ensure that black guests could profitably occupy their days and integrate with the locals. The youngest of the group of boys had even created a team, sponsored by local fans, which was then among the protagonists of the annual football tournament.

In May 2017, after the earthquake that hit part of Central Italy, Dino De Pasquale, together with some AIB volunteers from the Valchiusellese and Ozegna teams, went to the areas affected by the earthquake to deliver caravans, campers and housing modules for families left homeless, as well as cash aid to the most needy. Finally, travel to third world countries in contact with realities where poverty and suffering reign. Emotion and regret, yesterday afternoon, Thursday, at the funeral of De Pasquale who, in addition to his wife, Nadia, leaves a daughter, Silvia, in the past also volunteers in the yellow-blue Cross
