This morning, in fact, the memorandum of understanding was signed for the use of assets confiscated from organized crime for the purposes of welcoming refugees from Ukraine. The goal, the Viminale says on its website, is to make available to prefectures and municipalities, on a temporary and extraordinary basis, the structures not yet destined and in the direct management of the Agency for the administration and destination of the seized goods. and confiscated from organized crime and those already transferred to local authorities and not yet used.

“This is an initiative – said the Minister of the Interior, Luciana Lamorgese – which intends to expand the number of properties available for Ukrainian refugees, also providing for the possibility of rapidly financing, as part of the European Pon / Poc Legality and Fami, the necessary interventions to adapt them to new needs. The commitment of the Ministry of the Interior is maximum to give concrete answers to the most fragile people, such as women and children “, added the owner of the Interior Ministry, underlining how” the use of confiscated assets also assumes a strong symbolic value as stolen assets to the criminal circuit they will be destined to those who escape from the theater of war, enhancing the social aims of their reuse ».

The protocol assigns to the Department for Civil Liberties and Immigration of the Ministry of the Interior the link with the prefectures involved in the implementation of the agreement through the adoption of specific guidelines. The National Agency will perform a twofold task. On the one hand, it will provide for the assignment of the assets under management on free and temporary loan to the prefecture of the place where they are located for the exclusive purpose of welcoming Ukrainian refugees. On the other hand, it will make available the list of confiscated properties already transferred to local authorities and not yet used, identified by the prefectures and by the municipalities themselves, potentially usable for the purposes of welcoming Ukrainian refugees also in the context of widespread forms of reception. . The managing Authority of the Pon / Poc ‘Legality’ and the Authority responsible for the Fami (Asylum, migration and integration fund) will make available resources for the implementation of the interventions on the buildings to make it possible for their destination to welcome refugees. The role of the ANCI is fundamental, underlines the Interior Ministry, which will carry out an activity of impulse and information towards the municipalities concerned, also on the possibility of accessing the aforementioned loans to meet any needs for setting up and improving the efficiency of the assets.
