While in Rome there is a fight against political sabers on the idea of equipping the city with an energy recovery incinerator, at the same time quietly in nearby Aprilia, in the province of Latina, the Altissimi group is planning a waste-to-energy plant capable of transforming into electricity and heat for district heating over 430 thousand tons of unrecyclable waste. Estimated cost, 410 million. Lenders: also the citizens of Aprilia through shares in the Spa. The model to inspire is Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, whose incinerator has a panoramic café in the shade of the chimney and a ski slope on the sloping roof. And even the future incinerator of Aprila, if it manages to overcome the usual obstacles, will have similar sporting and tourist attractions.
Application filed in the Region
The facts. Monday evening at 9.58 pm – the time is documented by certified mail – the Creaplant company of the Altissimi group filed the application and the project documentation at the Via Environmental Impact Assessment offices of the Lazio Region. The non-recyclable part
“This is not undifferentiated garbage,” explains Fabio Altissimi, whose environmental management group with a turnover of 52 million is led by the parent company Rida Ambiente of Campoverde di Aprilia. “We intend to use as fuel only that portion of non-recyclable materials from the province of Latina that are left over after separate collection and sorting in our plants, but also products from other treatment plants in the province that currently find – when they find it – destined for Italian landfills. or foreign, if they are not even stored for months on the yards of many plants, without an adequate location “.
The types of waste
In fact, not all materials extracted from waste can be regenerated. A few examples. About 14.8% of the material collected with glass is not reusable, but according to a study by the Politecnico di Milano, 66.3% of non-reusable materials in the case of plastic are reached: while polyethylene tarpaulins, polypropylene bottles and bottles Pet’s are selling like hot cakes in the remanufacturing market, there is no destination for too small mixed fragments or for products made of heterogeneous plastics. It is no coincidence that these target-free materials sometimes accumulate to the point of becoming the trigger for very polluting fires.
Some details of the project
The energy recovery plant, envisaged by the European regulations on ecological taxonomy, would have a size of 437 thousand tons per year, similar to the A2A incinerator in Milan; the heat developed in the boiler, 220 megawatts, would be used to produce steam with which, after turning a turbine to produce electricity, power a district heating network for the Aprilia houses. The heating service could be municipal (or mixed public-private). Citizens and companies would save on heating costs and would be turned off hundreds of boilers that now emit their fumes into the air. The fumes from the Aprila plant would instead be filtered and treated. The management company of the plant intends to issue shares of 50 euros reserved only for the citizens of Aprilia, who would enjoy the dividend.
