From Iren and Relife bags for recycling with recycled plastic

A virtuous example of circular economy (and a 9 million euro business) that allows the production of 120 million garbage bags for separate collection through the reuse of 2.4 million kilos of recycled plastic, coming from the collection areas in the provinces of Reggio Emilia, Parma and Piacenza.

The operation is the result of the agreement between Iren, through its subsidiary I. Blu, and Relife, a Genoese company that operates in the circular economy, with the contribution of Corepla, the national consortium for the collection, recycling and recovery of plastic packaging.

One hundred and twenty million bags

The agreement provides for the supply to ReLife of plastic materials selected from the I.Blu plant in Cadelbosco di Sopra, which also brings together the plastics from the differentiated collection of the municipalities of the Emilia area.

At I. Blu, therefore, a particular product will be selected, the Film (Ldpe), which will be sent to the plants of the Relife group for the production of granules, used in turn to produce the bags distributed to citizens by all the companies of the group. Iren for separate collection. The value of the contract acquired by Relife for the supply of 120 million bags in three years is 9 million.

Costs in line with traditional supplies

For Iren, however, explains a note, “the cost of this innovative supply is in line with the previous traditional ones, therefore a significant environmental result will be achieved without substantial cost increases”.
