You have to choose which side to take | The editorial

UDINE. Dear readers, this is an appeal. As you scroll through these few lines80 people are fighting for their lives in the ICU in the region. They are a lot. It is the highest number recorded in a year now and gives a sense of what is happening: the situation is very serious.

The forecasts do not comfort the hope of those who simply wait for the wave to pass and then return to normal living. There will be no normality. We have another busy couple of weeks of contagion ahead of us and only then will the number of infected people begin to decline. Until the end of the vaccination campaign, restrictions will continue to be numerous and frequent. There is only one thing we can do right now: trust and vaccinate.

The first day of the resuming injections with AstraZeneca it was a disaster. 30% of those booked missed the appointment. I was with the councilor for health, Riccardo Riccardi, when the news arrived. We were presenting, together with President Fedriga, a new type of tampon resulting from Friulian research. I struggled to believe it.

These numbers contradict the well-known common sense of this land and which can probably be explained by the understandable state of bewilderment in which we all found ourselves after the suspension of the administration in the most important European countries. Now the doubts are dispelled. Scientists find no clear-cut correlation between the vaccine and reported deaths.

I trust and look at what is happening in nursing homes, where vaccinated elderly do not die anymore. I read the data on infections among health professionals and I see that only those who have refused immunization get sick. That’s how it goes these days. You have to choose which side to take, whether with anti-scientific skepticism or with the vaccine.

I have no doubts.
