Munich, 23 June 2021 – ‘Field invasion’ peaceful during the early stages of Germany-Hungary to Euro 2020. A LGBTQ activist, during the Hungarian hymn, he left the stands waving one big rainbow flag and pushing as far as the players were lined up.
The arrival of the security agents brought the situation back to normal: the man was blocked and led out of the pitch. The peaceful protest comes after the refusal by UEFA to illuminate the Munich stadium, where the game is played, with rainbow colors.
But it was not the only peaceful protest: as soon as the doors of the Allianz Arena opened, several militants, wearing a waistcoat with “rainbow to go” logo, they handed out rainbow flags to the fans. Others showed up at the gates with themed bands and pins.
The initiative was designed to show solidarity with the LGBTQ community against restrictive measures adopted by the government of Viktor Orban. That of the activist was therefore a strongly symbolic gesture in a period in which the climate is quite tense.
