NEW YORK. New York sees the legalization of recreational marijuana close at hand. An agreement has in fact been reached between the state legislators and the green light should be included in the budget law that will be presented on 1 April. The measure provides that New York state citizens can legally purchase marijuana and also grow the plants for personal use. The state, according to rumors, will impose a 9% tax on retail sales that can generate up to 300 million in tax revenue a year. Cities, on the other hand, will be able to impose a 4% tax. Legalization also involves the creation of a new regulatory agency, the Office of Cannabis Management, which will have to grant licenses.
