Mfe launches the European campaign. With a double move between Germany and Spain, the new Mediaset builds the foundations for the expansion strategy envisioned by the CEO Pier Silvio Berlusconi. First of all, Biscione rises over 25% in the German company ProsiebenSat, also so that the management understands who is largely the largest shareholder. At the same time, the board of directors initiated the consolidation of the Spanish assets, with the possible “delisting” of the stock from the Madrid stock exchange.
Before tightening its grip on German TV, Mfe waited for the final green light from all the competent authorities. According to analysts, with the Cologno Monzese operation it aims to reiterate to other potentially interested groups that there is no space on ProsiebenSat, while on the other hand it wants to directly influence the strategies of the group, which surprisingly renewed the contract of the group until 2027. ‘managing director Rainer Beaujean.
The “media company” based in Bavaria at the beginning of May is planning an assembly with the renewal of three members of the Supervisory board, including its president. In the last few weeks there have been contacts between the German management and the Italian shareholder but Biscione, which has not presented candidates for now, looks at a fact: at the shareholders’ meetings of ProsiebenSat, a “public company” until the arrival of Mfe, the participation is not very high (around 52-53%) and with its share the Italian group could also pass its resolutions autonomously.
Specifically, the Biscione pushes for ProsiebenSat, which in the next two years will change six other members of the Supervisory board, to refocus on the television sector, limiting the fragmentation of the business, which has given mixed results. From Amsterdam, Mfe is looking at international expansion and has been working on a major operation for some time, but in the meantime it is also thinking of defining a dossier that it has on the table for some time after the gradual release of Vivendi, such as the total consolidation of Mediaset Espana, of which it already holds 55.6 per cent.
In this way, a group with over three billion capitalization would be created, at least third in size in Europe. The Stock Exchange received a good response to these moves: the Mfe B stock, the one that best defines the mood of the market, yesterday closed up by 4.5% and Prosieben by 3.2%, while Mediaset Espana was suspended from the Spanish Consob awaiting the decisions of the Biscione while it was traveling up by 2.3 percent. –
