The cruise company Norwegian Cruise Line is progressively restarting post-Covid navigation, and in the meantime expands the fleet with the first ship of its future First Class: reservations are open to travel on Norwegian Prima, the first of these six new ships, which will begin operations in the summer of 2022, will be 295 meters long, will have a gross tonnage of 142,500 gross tons, and will be able to accommodate up to 3,215 guests (in double occupancy). The ship promises to be a game changer for Norwegian Cruise Line, offering guests more space and innovative design.
Explains Harry Sommer, Norwegian Cruise Line’s President and Chief Executive Officer: “We have doubled our investments in our brand to offer guests unforgettable experiences that go beyond expectations. Not only will we resume sailing in July, but we are happy and proud to announce the start of an exciting new chapter, welcoming First Class and the founder of a line of ships with Norwegian Prima. This ship is an exemplary representation of the evolution of our brand, combining our ‘Guest First’ philosophy with our spirit of innovation, to take everything our guests love about NCL to the next level with this brand new class of ships designed so that the guest is always the protagonist “.
The ship, built in Marghera (Venice) by the Italian group Fincantieri, also features an extraordinary work of art on the hull, conceived by the Italian writer Manuel Di Rita, known as “Peeta”. For the first time on an NCL ship, the hull decoration extends to the forward superstructure of the ship. World-class architects who contributed to Norwegian Prima’s design include Italian designer Piero Lissoni and leading architecture firms such as Rockwell Group, SMC Design, Tillberg Design of Sweden, YSA DESIGN and Miami-based Studio Dado, which conceptualized and defined the aesthetics of various restaurants, cabins and public areas on board.
“The name Prima – adds Sommer – is a tribute to our legacy of firsts in the sector and a fitting tribute to our new partners, the Italian shipyards of Fincantieri”.
For Fincantieri, the managing director Giuseppe Bono says that “Norwegian Prima marks the beginning of our collaboration, which will see the delivery of six new generation ships, designed to take the guest experience to a new level, focusing on a design which revises the concept of space. Emerging from this global crisis, this announcement represents a strong sign of hope for the cruise sector and testifies to Fincantieri’s global leadership role in the sector “.
