Even today, customers on the hotline are forwarded to the right place by an AI. And artificial intelligence is also used for the language assistance of the TV box. As well as for internal process optimizations such as network planning, where AI systems are used.

However, the use of ChatGPT is currently not an issue at Swisscom. The reason: According to Aeschlimann, it is not certain whether the data entered will remain in Switzerland. As long as this cannot be ensured, an application is excluded.

Transparency is also an important issue at Swisscom: customers should know at all times whether they are interacting with a machine or with a person.

Self-driving trains using AI

The digitization of rail vehicles is a challenge for train builder Stadler Rail. More and more technology that did not exist before is being built into vehicles. “That makes the trains more complex and therefore more susceptible to disruptions,” says CEO Peter Spuhler.

With the progressive development of AI, autonomously driving vehicles are becoming increasingly important for the industrial group. Stadler Rail has installed a system at Baselland Transport that enables trams to drive semi-autonomously.

In the future, AI will make it possible to further increase automation. Such as with the metro that has just been delivered to the city of Glasgow. These trains are already driving autonomously, supported by artificial intelligence. You can do without a driver’s cab.

Transferring human learning and thinking to the computer – this is a new and unfamiliar topic for many. But as it turns out, many companies in Switzerland are already using this form of technology in a variety of ways.
