Akasa Air, an Indian airline, has expressed its confidence in the Boeing 737 MAX by placing an order for 150 aircraft. The announcement was made during the Wings India show 2024. The order includes 150 Boeing 737-8-200 and B-787-10 aircraft, which will join the 22 already in operation and the 54 pending delivery. All 150 aircraft are expected to arrive in the next eight years.
According to Akasa Air, this order marks the first time in India that an airline has exceeded 200 aircraft orders within 17 months of starting operations. The airline sees this as the beginning of a path to becoming one of the top 30 airlines in the world by the end of the decade.
Since launching on August 7, 2022, Akasa Air has been operating between 18 destinations within India with a domestic market share of 4 percent. During this time, the airline has transported more than 6.3 million passengers.
With the arrival of the pending aircraft, Akasa Air aims to not only strengthen its domestic operations but also begin its first international flights. The order placed by Akasa Air had been previously listed by Boeing in its December listings as assigned to an unidentified customer.
