The Aurelia bis project in Savona restarts: as regards the completion lot, the publication of the tender notice is expected by the end of April. The second lot is in the planning phase: the definitive project will be completed in the summer, the services conference will start by the end of July. This was announced today by the President of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti together with the Councilor for Infrastructures Giacomo Giampedrone. Also present were the councilors for Transport and Tourism Gianni Berrino and for Urban Planning Marco Scajola.

“Finally, the tracks for the doubling of the Aurelia are about to be completed, from West to East – comment the president Toti and the commissioner Giampedrone -. After years of inactivity, Savona restarts and bids for the completion of the first lot, and on the second lot there is finally a regional-led table, to which all the interested realities sit, which wants to share the route to arrive, in 2023 , to open the construction site that will complete the project of the variant for the Savona area. All 4 interventions for doubling the historic Aurelia state road are considered priority works by the Ministry of Infrastructures, and three of these have already been commissioned: Imperia, Savona in fact, and La Spezia.

In recent years – add Toti and Giampedrone – we have worked to restart the sites that have remained stationary, such as that of the third lot of the La Spezia variant: here last December the excavation operations of the Pellizzarda tunnel restarted, in recent weeks it was definitively awarded the contract for the second phase, with the start of the construction site within the month of June. As regards the third, definitive excerpt, the tender is underway: if the time schedule is confirmed it will end in 2026. In addition to this, we have worked to start the designs of the Imperia and Sanremo – Ventimiglia variants. The 4 interventions to double the historic Aurelia state road are:
Imperia variant (in the planning phase)
Sanremo – Ventimiglia variant (in the planning phase)
La Spezia variant (divided into 3 lots, 2 of which are completed and a third, divided into 3 sections A, B and C of which the first is in progress. For the second the tender has been awarded, for the third the tender will be published by the month of March)
Savona variant (divided into 2 lots, of which the first lot to be completed and the second in the design phase)

The objective of these 4 interventions is to lighten the traffic on the current Aurelia route in correspondence with the main localities of our region, giving an alternative for ordinary mobility and facilitating medium-length journeys, ensuring faster connections also for with regard to port infrastructures.

Overall, there is talk of 47 kilometers of track between the one built and the one planned. A set of interventions that directly affect at least 308 thousand people residing in the various municipalities concerned, without counting the hundreds of thousands of tourists who use the roads of Liguria every year and all the heavy traffic that moves around the port hubs of La Spezia and Savona. and of Vado. The overall intervention of the third lot of La Spezia has a value of 198.71 million euros, that of Imperia 638 million, the Sanremo – Ventimiglia 600 million, that of Savona 222.59 million euros (completion plus second lot).
Traffic absorption capacities will be very high. The new risers will be valid alternatives to the motorway on short and medium distances especially as regards the bypasses of the provincial capital centers (La Spezia, Savona and Imperia). As regards the variant of La Spezia and the first lot of Savona, 236 million euros have already been allocated, while for the interventions in the course of planning the amount already allocated for the design alone is equal to 19.985 million (Variante di Imperia 4.985 million euro, Variante di Savona II lot € 7 million, Variante Sanremo – Ventimiglia 8 million euro).

Variant of Savona
The Savona variant is divided into two lots: the first lot, already completed for 80%, is being completed. The executive project for the completion has been completed and the economic part is being updated. The publication of the call for tenders is expected by the end of April.
The route of this first lot originates in Savona with a junction along Corso Ricci near the Letimbro stream, and ends at the intersection with via Saettone in the territory of Albisola Superiore, for a total length of approximately 5100 meters, with 2 viaducts and 3 galleries. The total estimated cost is € 79.59 million. The work is partially financed with the residual savings of the previous contract, equal to € 37.21 million.
Last November Anas asked MIMS to integrate the financing of the intervention for an amount equal to 42.37 million euros. The MIMS gave its authorization to finance the last 15 December.
The second lot is in the planning phase: the final project will be concluded in the summer, the services conference will start by the end of July, followed by the executive design and subsequently the tender. The cost estimate is approximately 143 million euros for a total length of approximately 2940 m, of which 2690 in the tunnel in the section between the Letimbro stream and the motorway toll booth. This section will be functional to the connection between the ports of Savona and Vado Ligure and the motorway system.
