British banking giant Barclays has announced that Gian Marco Martino has been chosen to fill the role of Chief Financial Officer for Barclays Europe, subject to regulatory approval. Martino, with thirty years of experience in the financial world, arrives at Barclays after a significant professional career at Credit Suisse, where he recently served as CFO, following its acquisition by UBS.
Martino’s career has been full of senior roles, including roles as Group Treasurer, Global Head of Corporate Risk Management and Head of Group Capital Management at Credit Suisse. His skills were initially honed in the position of external auditor at Deloitte, in their Geneva office.
“Gian Marco’s extensive experience and proven track record will further strengthen Barclays Europe’s operations,” said Francesco Ceccato, CEO of Barclays Europe. Martino will be based in Dublin and will report directly to Francesco Ceccato and Aunoy Banerjee, CFO of Barclays Bank PLC.
