Best-selling smartphones: Apple and Samsung dominate

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is the best-selling smartphone in the first quarter. The Galaxy S24 Ultra made it to fifth place, making it the best-selling Android smartphone.

Counterpoint analyzed the sales figures of individual smartphone models in the first quarter. The Top Ten As in the same period last year, is dominated by Apple and Samsung. The statistics also show that customers are increasingly turning towards premium models.

According to Counterpoint, the best-selling smartphone in the first three months of the year was Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max. It secured first place with a share of 4.4 percent. A year ago, the iPhone 14 Pro Max took second place with 4.3 percent – behind the iPhone 14.

Second and third place in the current ranking is occupied by the iPhone 15 (4.3 percent) and the iPhone 15 Pro (3.7 percent), followed by last year’s iPhone 14 (1.9 percent).

As in the first quarter of 2023, Samsung’s best-selling smartphone is in fifth place. The Galaxy S24 Ultra now secured the title with a share of 1.9 percent. A year ago, the entry-level Galaxy A13 was the best-selling Samsung smartphone in the first quarter.

Places six to ten were secured by the Galaxy A15 5G, the Galaxy A54, the iPhone 15 Plus, the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy A34. “The growing popularity of the Apple Pro range was evident as it accounted for half of Apple’s total revenue in the first quarter of 2024, a significant increase from the 24 percent in the first quarter of 2020. The Pro iPhones have become the most important revenue drivers for Apple and contributed over 60 percent of sales in the first quarter of 2024,” said Counterpoint. “Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series secured two spots in the top ten for Q1 2024, with the Ultra variant taking fifth place and the base variant taking ninth place. The strong performance of the S24 series can be attributed to Samsung’s early update of the series and its efforts in generative AI (GenAI) technology.”
