In the coming month of April, residents in Cuba will see a new electricity rate on their bills. The Electric Company in the province of Sancti SpĆritus has confirmed this change, which was implemented in March for the residential sector. Customers who exceed 500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) will experience a 25 percent increase in their bill starting in April.
Exceptions to this increase include self-employed workers, places with productive activities, and the non-state sector. Sancti SpĆritus currently has 5,881 clients consuming over 500 kWh, a number that is expected to rise during the summer months. However, this represents a small portion of the provinceās 186,000 clients.
The rate increase will only apply to kilowatts above 500, while the rest will remain unchanged. The Electrical Union of Cuba clarified that the new rate based on Marchās consumption reading will be reflected in Aprilās bills. The percentages of increase vary depending on consumption levels, with increases ranging from 9.4% to 22.4%.
Residents are encouraged to use an online calculator provided by Directorio Cubano to estimate their upcoming electricity bill. Stay informed and prepared for the changes coming in April to avoid any surprises on your next bill.
