Strack-Zimmermann also discussed the IHK company barometer for the European elections. According to the survey, only five percent of German industrial companies stated that the EU had become more attractive as a location in recent years. “How can you simply want to run for re-election as Commission President after such a vote of no confidence in our economy,” said the FDP top candidate.

She also accused the CDU politician of having paid too little attention to the economy and small and medium-sized businesses as a former labor minister. “Without its success, companies will lose jobs due to the terrible conditions and this horrible bureaucracy,” said Strack-Zimmermann. Von der Leyen’s policy follows the pattern that everything has to be regulated multiple times.

The FDP politician also criticized NATO’s actions immediately after the start of the Russian war of aggression. “It was a mistake for NATO to reject the Ukrainians’ desire to establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine from the beginning of the Russian attack,” said Strack-Zimmermann. At the beginning of the war in February 2022, NATO refused to secure Ukrainian airspace because this would have threatened a direct confrontation between the transatlantic alliance and Russia.
