The new i4 is indeed a very close relative of the 4 Series with heat engines. The front is closed, but the stylistic solution of the elongated double kidney hides the assisted driving sensors, while some finishes take up the blue color typical of all BMW electric models. The car is 4.78 meters long, has a wheelbase of 2.85 meters and offers a variable boot from 470 to 1,290 liters, while the towing capacity is 1,600 kg.

A high-level technical equipment

The rear air shock absorbers and 17-inch wheels with 225/45 tires are standard on the i4 eDrive40. The M variant, on the other hand, adds the electronically controlled suspension with reinforced front suspension, the M Sport braking system and the optional 18-inch or 20-inch wheels combined with differentiated 245/45 and 255/45 tires for a feeling more direct driving.

The different electrified mechanical scheme

The two versions of the i4 range are characterized by a different mechanical scheme but by the same basic electrified technology: 340 hp engine with single-speed gearbox and rear-wheel drive for the i4 eDrive40 that offers up to 590 km of autonomy. Instead the four-wheel drive with two 258 hp engines at the front and 313 hp at the rear for a total of 544 hp for the performing i4 M50 that travels up to 510 km with a single charge of energy.

Performance from authentic purebred cars

The M50 reaches 100 km / h from standstill in 3.9 seconds in Launch Control mode and pushes up to 225 km / h of self-limited top speed. For the i4 eDrive40 the 0-100 km / h is obtained, however, in 5.7 seconds and the peak top speed is 190 km / h. For a more immersive experience, the M50 adopts a specific digital sound, while the IconicSounds Electric developed for the two i4s is optional.

Rechargeable batteries with 200 kW systems

The 83.9 kWh batteries, covered by a warranty of 8 years or 160,000 km, have a density greater than 20% compared to those of the compact i3 and also occupy a thickness of only 110 mm, thus lowering the center of gravity by 53 mm compared to that of the 3 Series sedan with traditional engine, 34 mm for the M50. They can also be recharged with 200 kW systems to achieve up to 164 km of range in 10 minutes or 140 kilometers on the M50.
