Positive closing for Piazza Affari. The Ftse Mib index marks + 0.39% at 24,862 points after it had pushed up to 24,928 points at the start. Waiting for new insights from the quarterly season (Generali’s accounts tomorrow morning), the M&A factor is back in the limelight with AT&T announcing the merger between its WarnerMedia media division and the Discovery company. Indications that also gave support to Telecom Italia which closed at + 1.7% in the 0.4435 euro area.

Among the individual securities on the main list, Unipol is today highlighted with over + 2.5% above the 5 euro threshold. The positive momentum of Banco Bpm continues, the best performer among banks with + 1.98% at € 2.727. The latest rumors continue to see two possible scenarios for the bank led by Giuseppe Castagna: a deal with Bper to create a third major bank, or a possible prey for Unicredit, possibly even within a three-way mega deal that also includes Mps.

Unicredit also moved up (+ 0.31% to € 10.24), recovering from more than + 9% during the week and which according to Bloomberg Intelligence analysts will be the first bank to move in an M&A perspective. There are two possible scenarios: take over Mps thanks also to the increase in tax incentives by the government, or focus on Banco Bpm.

DiaSorin also did well (+ 2.07%), which last Friday presented growing quarterly results. A plus sign also for Stellantis which goes above the threshold of 15 euros (+ 1.63% to 15.098 euros) which tomorrow 18 May will announce a strategic partnership with Foxconn. The two companies will hold a conference call to present the partnership, with Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares and Foxconn President Young Liu.
