BYD plans to launch its first electric pickup truck for global markets later this year, challenging popular models from Toyota, Ford and Isuzu. The first photos of the vehicle released by BYD show a boxy dual-cab vehicle partially camouflaged by orange and blue paint being road tested at an unspecified location.
While the company did not release any details on the powertrain, technical specifications and pricing, it said that the mid-size model will be its first new energy pick-up (NEV). While BYD vehicles are not available in the United States, the Chinese company is present in several markets in Asia, Australia and South America, where pickups are most popular. For example, Toyota’s Hilux, Isuzu’s D-Max and Ford’s Ranger models are the three best-selling vehicles in Australia. Finally, it should be remembered that last month Isuzu presented an electric version of the D-Max.
