Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Marks 60th Birthday with $176.9 Billion Net Worth
With his 60th birthday just around the corner on January 12, Jeff Bezos has a lot to celebrate. Since founding Amazon in 1994, Bezos has amassed a huge fortune, making him the third richest person in the world.
Despite stepping down as CEO of Amazon in July 2021 to take on the role of executive president, Bezos’ wealth now exceeds $170 billion. According to the Forbes billionaires list, as of January 12, Bezos has a net worth of $176.9 billion.
His position as the third richest person in the world puts him behind Elon Musk, with a wealth of $230.2 billion, and Bernard Arnault & family, who have a fortune of $182.1 billion.
Bezos earned most of his wealth from serving as CEO and founder of Amazon. His yearly base salary of $88,840, along with additional compensation, brought his total earnings to over $1.6 million each year. However, the bulk of his wealth came from the stocks he owns in Amazon, with Bezos holding just under 10% of the company’s stock.
In addition to his stake in Amazon, Bezos also owns The Washington Post and Blue Origin, an aerospace company focused on developing rockets for commercial use.
When interviewed by CNN in November 2022, Bezos stated his intentions to donate the majority of his wealth during his lifetime, although he did not provide specific details. This philanthropic mindset is in line with his history of donating to various nonprofit organizations.
