Over 1% of the German population – nearly one million people – is currently infected with the coronavirus. Health Minister Jens Spahn said today, who noted that the number of unvaccinated who are infected and seriously ill is much higher than their share of the overall population.

Daily COVID-19 cases were 74,352 new with 390 additional deaths today, according to data published by the federal agency for disease control.

According to calculations by the Robert Koch Institute, around 925,800 people in Germany are considered actively infected with the virus.

“If all German adults were vaccinated, we wouldn’t be in this difficult situation,” Spahn said.

Yesterday Germany announced new restrictive measures with the nationwide extension of 2G (access allowed only to vaccinated and coronavirus cured) to the retail trade.
