Entirely made in Cuba, that’s why it has already been renamed the “socialist smartphone”. The pearl of the Caribbean dives into the world of mobile phones and does it – needless to say – in a revolutionary and self-sufficient way: the state-owned company Gedeme will in fact produce the first smartphone in the world made and assembled in a single country.
The first prototypes will arrive by the end of June, the manufacturer says: there will be only 6 thousand copies in this first experimental phase and will use NovaDroid as an operating system.
NovaDroid is an alternative version of Android developed by the University of Informatics (USI), an operating system “made by Cubans and for Cubans”, capable of adapting to the needs of citizens of the island who cannot access all technological services .
The announcement was made in recent days by the general manager of Gedeme, René Cano Diaz, who spoke on Radio Rebelde and the news soon went viral.
The socialist country has always focused on the self-production of products and technologies, just think of the recent autarchic choice to create the anti-Covid vaccine, Abdala, within its borders.
