Whether and how things will continue for Galeria in the long term will depend on whether Denkhaus manages to find an investor who will take over Galeria as a whole or at least maintain the core of the company. The prospects are assessed quite differently. “The Thai Central Group may be interested in some Galeria locations, and individual branches could also be an option for retailers like Breuninger,” says Johannes Berentzen, Head of the BBE trading consultancy. “But an investor who takes over Galeria completely? I don’t have the imagination for that.” Breaking up is the likely scenario: “I would be surprised if more than 20 Galeria stores survive,” says Berentzen.
