At the same time, behind the scenes, France’s government is apparently exploring a new attempt to expand the French nuclear umbrella – the “Force de frappe” – multilaterally to the whole of Europe. It would be the right step, in close cooperation with Germany, Poland and Italy. Whether it can be implemented politically is a completely different question. But the unthinkable becomes conceivable in these times. Not only, but also because of Donald Trump.
