Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is taking a bold approach to driving the adoption of the company’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology. In a recent move, Musk has ordered that every new Tesla delivered to customers must include a short demonstration of the latest version of the FSD software.
This initiative aims to increase the adoption rate of FSD, which enables features such as automatic lane changes, highway navigation, recognizing stop signs and traffic lights, and self-parking. Despite these advancements, a licensed driver is still required to supervise the system at all times. The latest version of FSD, V12.3.1, is currently rolling out with Musk promising regular updates every two weeks.
The strategy behind this measure is twofold. Firstly, it intends to improve public perception of the capabilities of supervised FSD, which Musk believes are not fully recognized. Secondly, by offering test drives as a mandatory step before delivery, Tesla aims to enhance the customer experience by showcasing the advanced capabilities of its vehicles.
This shift in Tesla’s delivery process, which traditionally focused on speed and efficiency, will likely increase the workload at Tesla stores and delivery centers. However, the company believes that providing direct experiences of FSD will help drive adoption and improve customer satisfaction.
Furthermore, Tesla is aligning this change with its referral program incentives. Customers who purchase a vehicle with a referral code will receive three months of the Full Self-Driving package for free. This move underscores Tesla’s commitment to promoting FSD through firsthand experiences and personal recommendations.
With the implementation of FSD Beta version 12 and plans to eliminate the requirement for driver attention in the future, Tesla is inching closer towards its goal of achieving fully autonomous driving. By prioritizing direct demos and customer experiences, Musk is confident that Tesla’s FSD technology will revolutionize the future of mobility.
