Eco-friendly glasses are made with fishing nets, rugs and scraps

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Eco-sustainable and customizable, made of completely recycled nylon that reduces the impact on global warming by 90% compared to that derived from oil: these are the new handmade glasses made in Italy that respect the environment. To “sign them” is an Italian startup, Radius. Econyl is the material with which they are made, derived from the recovery of fishing nets, old carpets, pieces of fabric and industrial waste. It is a very light material that adapts to the heat of summer. In addition, all the glasses in this collection are fitted with Carl Zeiss Vision polarized lenses, to protect the eyes not only from direct light but also from the glare of the sun’s rays on reflective surfaces, such as that of the sea. The new collection, which can be purchased online and in the Milan store, will also have a positive impact on the climate. Radius has in fact estimated the CO2 emissions generated during all production steps (2kg of CO2 per eyewear) and more than offset these emissions, financing for each eyewear produced the planting of a mangrove tree as part of the Vilamatsa Mangrove Site project, which aims to reforest the west coast of Madagascar. The annual absorption capacity of a single tree is 12.3kg of CO2: in just one year, Radius will compensate more than six times the estimated CO2 emissions for the production of glasses, including lenses, packaging and all transport. . “Radius is a native sustainable company and since its creation we have always cared about the impact of our choices and our products on the environment, always seeking the perfect synthesis between the quality of our glasses and the lowest possible environmental impact” explained Manfredi Benvenuti, founder and CEO of Radius.
