Enea in the EU project for a unified food security strategy

by admin

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Activate a common research and innovation strategy in the field of food safety. This is the goal of the European project FoodSafety4EU, funded by the Horizon2020 program, which brings together in a research consortium 23 partners from 12 countries, three of which from Italy: Enea, CNR (coordinator) and Apri (Agency for the Promotion of European Research in Italy). In three years, the project will have to develop a ‘multi-stakeholder’ platform that will network all the national and international players operating in the field of food safety, from institutions to producers, from large distribution to consumers. “In addition to paving the way for closer collaboration between all stakeholders and reducing the current fragmentation of skills and knowledge, the new platform will also play the role of a service center to ensure safety, health and quality in food”, he stresses. Claudia Zoani, researcher of the Enea division of Biotechnology and agro-industry and project manager for the Agency. The FoodSafety4EU platform will support the EU Commission and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA – European Food Safety Authority) in the main challenges in this sector, also through the formulation of recommendations. Thanks to this digital network, data and information will also be made available that will ensure transparency and increase trust on the part of citizens-consumers. The ‘FoodSafety4EU’ project will also promote the integration of digital data and tools developed within the project with those of Metrofood – Esfri research infrastructure coordinated by Enea – and Fns-Cloud and with all the resources for food safety and risk EFSA assessment. Joint initiatives are also planned with the Joint Programming Initiative on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change, A Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life and European Institute of Innovation & Technology-Food programs. “In this broad context, all the actors involved will be committed to maximizing the benefits for all and avoiding duplication. When the project ends in 2023, we will try to transform this large community into a permanent forum for food security”, concludes Zoani. (ITALPRESS). ads / com 11-May-21 17:08
