In the fourth quarter the gross domestic product of the final euro zone marks + 0.5%. Thus the Eurostat that the euro zone economy expanded modestly towards the end of last year, despite the hit of the Omicron variant in December. Attention is now focused on the outlook for the euro as the Russia-Ukraine war continues to dictate sentiment over the past few weeks.
Among the individual countries, Eurostat reports that in the fourth quarter the highest growth was recorded in Slovenia (+ 5.4%), Malta (+ 2.3%), Spain and Hungary (both + 2%). Italy recorded + 0.6% on the quarter and + 6.2% on the year.
