The city of Nuevo Laredo is set to welcome two new branches of Aurrera Winery in 2024, expanding the number of supermarkets or large stores in the city to 24. This expansion is expected to generate more employment opportunities for the local community.

Jaime Mireles de la Cruz, director of Commerce, Employment, and SMEs, expressed optimism about the upcoming developments in the city, stating, “In terms of this year, 2024, it will be stronger with the arrival of shopping centers, we already have two that are practically about to begin construction, the projects that were already Aurrera Winery and others that are out there, of which we are aware of others that come this year, I am referring to commercial projects.”

Currently, there are 22 supermarkets already operating in Nuevo Laredo, serving a population of more than 19,320 people. With the addition of two new Aurrera Winery branches, there is still considerable room for growth in the market.

In October 2023, three large stores opened in the city, including Aurrera Winery, a subsidiary of the Walmart group, a second branch of My Savings Store under HEB, and Soriana in a new central location.

Mireles de la Cruz also mentioned potential future projects, stating, “We have seen convenience stores that open all the time and all with success, we have seen some pharmacies out there, there is already a project that started in other municipalities of Tamaulipas, with Farmacias del Ahorro; Probably this year it will already happen here, they bring 12 to 15 stores that we would see start in the coming months with that project.”
