Thermal, aspirated, no hybrid to contaminate its Ferrari purity and a name, «12Cilindri», which says it all: past, present and future of Ferrari. Starting with the V12, the most iconic engine, the one loved and preferred by Enzo Ferrari since the beginning of the legend. V12 was also the 166, the first “red” to leave the gates of Maranello. And, now in the midst of the era of electric motors, super powers powered by lithium ions and synthetic and freeze-dried sounds, Ferrari returns to the charge with the V12 and declines it in the new 12Cilindri, a hyperbolic grand tourer which proudly thermally relaunches the petrol (now with 830 horsepower at 9,250 rpm!) and while confirming the arrival of the electric, it continues to bet on a technology that combines tradition, charm and performance.

Ferrari 12Cilindri: positioning and innovations

The new 12Cilindri replaces the 812 Superfast and debuts immediately in two variants: the coupé and the Spider with retractable sheet metal roof. And everything is seasoned with luxury and aerodynamics with a style with a very high wow effect that integrates form and function. An example? The two mobile wings at the rear which, managed by an intelligence of software and silicon, keep the car glued to the road when needed without dirtying the line with questionable fixed wings. These mobile appendages allow for two configurations: Low Drag (LD) and High Downforce (HD). In LD mode, the moving element aligns with the body to reduce drag, while in HD mode, maximum vertical load is generated to ensure optimal aerodynamic balance. Among the innovations, the four independent steering wheels stand out and this, thanks to a 20mm shorter wheelbase compared to the 812 Superfast, improves the dynamic behavior of the Italian super grand tourer. And with rear-wheel drive, these tricks are essential

Ferrari 12Cilindri: the style

The new Ferrari exhibits breathtaking style and is the result of the team led by chief designer Flavio Manzoni. The front, which shows some references to the 1968 Daytona 365 GTB 4, is dominated by a very long bonnet (fender bonnet) while the side with a double parallel rib is connected to the muscular rear characterized by a “black screen”, an integrated black panel in a delta theme with the roof, where at the ends there are two movable wings corresponding to the light clusters and inserted into the rear window. It’s a choice that combines form and function: aerodynamic load management and a clean, elegant style that a fixed high-top certainly couldn’t provide.

The 12Cilindri aims to redefine the stylistic codes of the previous mid-front-engined Ferrari V12s. In particular, the front bonnet has an extremely smooth surface, with fluid lines that emerge from the volumes of the fenders. The absence of cuts gives the car a clean and tidy appearance, interrupted only by the presence of two air intakes for cooling the engine. The front loses some characteristic features of Ferraris (citing the legendary Daytona), such as the eye-shaped headlights and the grille that resembles a mouth, in favor of more modern and sophisticated geometries. The rear, however, stands out for its purity and for the harmonious integration of the headlights within a blade that crosses the entire volume, creating an effect of great elegance and modernity.

Instead of a rear spoiler, as mentioned, two active appendages have been adopted which, integrated into the rear window, produce an effect with a characteristic delta theme, giving the car a highly technological appearance.
