Germany: Gfk survey, consumer confidence collapses in January on the Omicron variant

Collapse of consumer confidence in Germany on the effect of the Omicron variant. According to the Gfk survey for January, German consumer confidence stood at -6.8 points against -1.8 points in the previous survey (revised from -1.6). The Bloomberg consensus indicated a figure of -2.7 points. This is the lowest level in the past seven months.

Today in Germany, the new Chancellor Olaf Scholz is expected to announce new restrictions to contain the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
