Secret meetings with right-wing extremists? The astonishing end of the “Hans im Glück” investor

Hans-Christian Limmer is considered a luminary among gastro entrepreneurs. Now the Munich burger chain “Hans im Glück” is surprisingly separating from its important investor. Shortly before, there had been reports of meetings with right-wing extremists. The entrepreneur appears surprised.
The burger chain Hans im Glück is separating from one of its shareholders – just half a day after that Search-Portal „Correctiv“ Hans-Christian Limmer was named as the alleged “rich man in the background” of a meeting of right-wing extremists. Limmer is said to have invited people to a meeting of civil right-wing extremists in November, where the mass expulsion of foreigners from Germany was said to have been discussed.
But Limmer didn’t take part himself. There were then calls for a boycott and hostility against the Munich burger chain on social media. The rapid separation is unusual in the German economy. Ultimately, Limmer holds shares in the company as an investor. He also comes from the start-up scene, which is considered liberal and cosmopolitan.
Limmer has been a co-owner of the burger chain since 2020 and is also an investor in the Pottsalat gastro chain. He is not a typical representative of the right-wing scene. The graduate of the business-oriented start-up university WHU is actually one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the German catering industry. The former partner of the management consultancy Roland Berger co-founded the cheap bakery chain Backwerk and sold it to the financial investor EQT in 2013.

Hans im Glück announced that Limmer had distanced himself from the company from the meeting, which was also attended by representatives of the new-right Identitarian Movement: “In addition, he did not take part in the event that the media reported on,” said the company. Limmer “is dismayed” by the allegations.

He also informed the burger chain at an early stage about the planned reporting and offered to leave the chain’s shareholder group. Limmer himself did not comment again. His LinkedIn profile is currently deactivated. Apparently Limmer has family ties to revisionist circles.
The Saxon left-wing MP Kerstin Köditz shared information on the short message service X that Limmer’s deceased father was said to have moved around old and neo-Nazis. This connection had previously only been discussed on Antifa group websites.

Hans-im Glück boss Johannes Bühler distanced himself from the co-owner on Wednesday afternoon: “The allegations made in the reporting are in absolute contrast to the values of our company. On behalf of the shareholders and the management, I would like to thank Mr. Limmer for the work he has done to develop Hans im Glück and his consistent behavior.”
Bühler’s family has also been involved in the chain since the founders left in 2020, which was then in an economic crisis after rapid expansion.
Limmer’s co-partner at Pottsalat, the entrepreneur Matthias Willenbacher, also reacted to the events. He only knew Limmer from phone calls and emails, he told WELT. “I am deeply shocked and cannot believe it.” He will push for an explanation.
No exchange on political issues with Limmer
He never discussed politics with Limmer: “The few phone calls are purely about shareholder issues regarding Pottsalat, in which I have a single-digit stake,” said Willenbacher.
He himself is best known as the founder of the wind energy company Juwi. He has been active as a start-up investor since leaving in 2018 – and made headlines this week because of a scuffle with the police during farmers’ protests in Mainz. Willenbacher is considered an advocate of sustainability and stated in an earlier interview that in the multicultural Mainz hobby football club “FC Duck Baghdad” to play.
Recently, the conservative entrepreneur Theo Müller was also criticized several meetings with AfD leader Alice Weidel said that he saw “not the slightest evidence” of Nazi ideology in the party. In December there were also calls for a boycott on social media.
