MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Intesa Sanpaolo and Campus Bio-Medico SpA, one of the Promoters of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, have signed a loan agreement for a total amount of 50 million euros linked to investments with innovative characteristics of sustainability. The investment plan thus financed provides for the construction of new spaces and infrastructures for university teaching, training and scientific research, all with characteristics of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. Intesa Sanpaolo thus concludes a further transaction worth the 6 billion euros dedicated to the circular economy envisaged in the 2018-2021 Business Plan, a ceiling that has financed around 200 projects since its launch. The operation includes a tranche of about 30 million euros aimed at the creation of green infrastructures and mobility and innovative spaces dedicated to university training, informal learning and campus life that will welcome the students of the University starting from ‘Academic Year 2022-23. The project provides for a significant improvement in the energy efficiency of both the new spaces and the various connected systems that will allow to optimize solar radiation, regulate air renewal and will also allow the production of the heat necessary for heating, thus avoiding ‘the combustion of methane. A second tranche of 20 million euros will be aimed at refinancing, by extending the maturity, the remaining part of a previous loan granted to allow the construction of the hospital and university complex. The Campus Bio-Medico University is made up of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (with degree courses in Italian and English and 24 specialized schools), the Faculty of Engineering (with the course, among others, of Chemical Engineering for Sustainable Development) and the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies for man and the environment (with a course specifically dedicated to the circular economy) and welcomes over 2,200 students. Its research laboratories host 50 research units, with about 400 researchers. The Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital is equipped with 400 beds, 18 operating theaters, 70 clinics and a 1st level First Aid – DEA (temporarily converted into Covid Center with 100 dedicated beds) and equipped with all the most modern technological equipment in the diagnostic and therapeutic field.
