JetBlue Expands Route Offerings from Puerto Rico

The airline JetBlue announced this Wednesday that it will operate six new flights from the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), in Isla Verde, including two to the city of Cancún, in Mexico, and Medellín, in Colombia.

Additionally, the airline reported that it will introduce its premium version, called Mint, which will debut on July 22 of this year on a daily flight between SJU and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York (JFK), featuring reclining seats and an elevated gastronomic experience.

Marty St. George, president of JetBlue, expressed the company’s excitement about the expansion, stating, “JetBlue has been a part of the Puerto Rican community for more than twenty years and we are excited to deepen our roots with this expansion.”

The new flights will also include destinations such as St. Croix airport in the Virgin Islands, Santiago in the Dominican Republic, Providence, Rhode Island, and Westchester County, New York. Most flights will be available from October this year, with varying frequencies.

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company highlighted that the new air routes will bring an economic impact of $89 million to the island. Director Carlos Mercado Santiago emphasized that the expansion of JetBlue’s network demonstrates the island’s appeal to domestic and international travelers seeking a quality service and diverse vacation destination.

Apart from San Juan, JetBlue also operates at the Mercedita airport in Ponce and Rafael Hernández airport in Aguadilla, employing over 370 crew members in Puerto Rico. With the new routes, the airline will now operate flights to 18 destinations from the three airports.
