Kia has released the name of its new pick-up: Tasman, a name inspired by the wild beauty and uncontaminated nature of Tasmania, the island at the southern tip of Australia, intended to symbolize the spirit of adventure and the desire to exploration that distinguishes the new pickup.

Tasman: a new pick-up concept

Kia Tasman represents the brand’s first bold step into the global C-segment pick-up market, presenting itself as a suitable companion for a dynamic lifestyle, ready for the most diverse leisure activities, even extreme ones.

The Hyundai group brand has planned the debut of its first pick-up in 2025, through a strategy that will see the launch divided into several phases, globally, in the markets of Korea, Australia, Africa and the Middle East. This strategic approach aims to satisfy the specific needs and requests of each geographical area, based on the characterizing factors of each, such as the strong penetration of pick-ups on the Australian market, the growing propensity towards outdoor activities that has emerged on the Korean market and Africa and the Middle East’s need for off-road vehicles capable of tackling diverse terrain, including deserts.

Naming: a careful choice

The name Tasman, suggested by Kia Australia, was selected from a list of submissions from Kia’s global markets. Its direct connection with Tasmania, known as the ‘island of inspiration’ and with the Tasman Sea ultimately led to this denomination. The extraordinary landscapes of the island and the mosaic of

biodiversity of wildlife offer a unique blend of wilderness and cultural richness, helping to inspire a sense of wonder and community that is unmatched anywhere else. The name is intended to evoke this spirit of adventure, reflecting the robust nature and multiple capabilities of Kia’s new pick-up.
