Language Aid: thanks to the network, migrants speak to Italy

by admin

The economy is also the civil life of a country, and civil life is above all participation. It is clear that participating, if you do not speak the language of the country in which you live, becomes difficult. Thus was born in Turin Language Aid, a free platform dedicated to the translations necessary for the reception of migrants in situations of health and social emergency. It was created by Algoritmo Associates, a company that has been offering professional translation services for years. “The project is to build a bridge between people and encourage integration whenever language becomes an obstacle to help,” explain the promoters. Everything works thanks to the work of volunteer-translators who offer three types of service: Text to text, – send a text and receive the translation – text to speech – a text becomes spoken for those who cannot read – and speech to speech – you speak and listen to the answer – a more complex function, designed for cases of serious humanitarian urgency, which is being perfected. Integrating the languages of sub-Saharan countries and the Horn of Africa is not a walk in the park even for translation professionals. «LanguageAid is available to everyone: humanitarian organizations, mediators and NGOs. The collection of translations is also a very precious map of the needs of migrants », comments Guido Mandarino, president and CEO of Algoritmo Associates.

The platform grows and is constantly evolving: it seeks volunteers who add their skills to the working group. You can find it at this link. R. EN.
