LATAM Airlines to Resume Direct Flights between Lima and Havana

LATAM Airlines, the renowned aviation company based in Santiago de Chile, has announced its plans to resume direct flights between Lima, the capital of Peru, and Havana, the capital of Cuba, starting from October 29. According to reports from Aero-Ships aviation magazine, LATAM aims to operate four weekly frequencies on this route.
The airline’s decision to reconnect the two capitals comes as part of its ongoing efforts to recover routes amidst the gradual revival of the global travel industry. By reestablishing the Lima-Havana link, LATAM will offer travelers in Peru convenient access to the Cuban capital.
LATAM is expected to utilize Airbus A319 or A320 aircraft on this route, depending on passenger demand. This translates to more than a thousand passengers being transferred between Lima and Havana every week. The published itinerary states that departures from Lima will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, departing at 09:15 local time. Return flights from Havana will depart at 5:25 p.m. local time, arriving in Lima during the night.
If LATAM’s plans materialize, the airline would have a total of five routes connecting Peru to Central America and the Caribbean by the end of 2023. In addition to Havana, LATAM already operates flights to San José de Costa Rica, Aruba, Cancun, Mexico, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Currently, there are no direct flights between Cuba and Peru, making the reintroduction of LATAM’s service a significant development for the Cuban community residing in the Andean country. Travelers wishing to journey between the two nations before October would need to opt for connecting flights with Copa Airlines, Aerolíneas Argentinas, or Wingo, the Colombian airline.
LATAM will operate these flights from its hub at Lima Airport, utilizing its strategic position as a connection center for various destinations in South America, including Chile and Uruguay, where a large number of Cubans also reside.
As the travel industry gradually recovers, this reinstated route will not only facilitate travel between Lima and Havana but also foster cultural and economic exchange between Peru and Cuba.
