The CEO of TIM underlines the importance of the single network for Italy’s technological progress. The possibility of an agreement with Open Fiber is on the horizon.

The theme of the so-called “single network” is one of the most talked about in the world of telecommunications in Italy, being considered as an important milestone for the technological and economic development of the country. The single network also represents one of the most important commitments for TIM which, through the words of its CEO Luigi Gubitosi, has repeatedly stressed that it wants to spread ultra-broadband to as many people as possible throughout the country.

Luigi Gubitosi: fiber network, cloud and artificial intelligence as top priorities
In his speech, Luigi Gubitosi then highlighted what he believes are the primary objectives of technological development in Italy: “I think the goal of this country is to complete a fiber network as soon as possible, and then to go beyond connectivity and work on the cloud, hedge computing and artificial intelligence “. The CEO of TIM then continued on the issue stating that “the more we discuss something that has already been completed, the less we will be able to focus on future goals. I think there will be developments in this sense and I believe that, as soon as the negotiations with Maquarie are completed, we will speak with the new shareholders of Open Fiber hoping to find an agreement for the best “.
There was also a reference to copper technology, now considered obsolete by Luigi Gubitosi who in fact underlined TIM’s commitment to a renewal in this sense: “for us one of the most important things is to reduce as much as possible the presence of copper and the complexity that comes from copper: in this segment we have a more expensive legacy to maintain. The worst, however, is to stay halfway: for us, when we manage to switch to fiber, there will be an enormous benefit “.

In the wake of these statements, Luigi Gubitosi would therefore open up to dialogue with Open Fiber on the theme of the single network and its control, creating the conditions for a scenario that in recent days has seemed to be appreciated by the financial markets. In the last few days, the TIM stock has recovered on the stock market thanks to some particularly favorable days.
The creation of a possible new company, not directly controlled by TIM and resulting from the merger of Open Fiber with FiberCop, the infrastructural company of the Group, would also obtain a faster “green light” from the European antitrust.
